Jeep fires back at the Ford Bronco with another Wrangler variant. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Xtreme Recon Package promises to be even more off-road than the Rubicon and is set to debut at the 2021 Chicago Auto Show on July 14, but customers can order it now.
The Xtreme Recon package adds 35-inch tires, Jeep confirmed in a press release, that go with the Ford Bronco Sasquatch package. The BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain rubber is wrapped around 17-inch beadlock-enabled wheels, and the package also includes a 4.56: 1 final drive and 1.5-inch suspension lift with uniquely tuned shock absorbers.
These changes allow for an approach angle of 47.4 degrees, a tilt angle of 26.7 degrees, a departure angle of 40.4 degrees, a ground clearance of 12.9 inches, and the ability to traverse up to 33.6 inches of water. All of these numbers top the class of two made up of the Wrangler and the new Bronco.
2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 with Xtreme Recon package
The Xtreme Recon package is only available on four-door Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon models, which gives the Jeep better numbers than the four-door Bronco in all respects. Granted, the four-door Wrangler Rubicon already had a slightly better approach angle than the Bronco, and the difference in water-wading ability between the two SUVs is only 0.1 inches, according to the manufacturer.
Jeep has not confirmed pricing, but said customers can now order the Xtreme Recon package for the standard Wrangler Rubicon four-door or the V-8-powered Wrangler Rubicon 392. Production is scheduled to start in August.
In addition to the Xtreme Recon package, Jeep is adding a new final drive ratio of 4.88: 1 for the Wrangler Rubicon. In conjunction with the 6-speed manual transmission, the Rubicon will have a creep ratio of 100: 1, according to Jeep. It will be available for order later this year, the automaker said.
